Accredited ECOsmart Silver Hotel
Awarded Four AA Silver Stars and One AA Rosette (2026)
Although much of the Welsh landscape is defined by rugged hills and valleys, it has plenty of beautiful coastal areas with sandy beaches. St George's Hotel, in the town of Llandudno, sits along one of these fine locations and looks out to the Irish Sea. This historic hotel was built by an enterprising innkeeper named Isaiah Davies. Taking advantage of a development project in the area, he established a business that has endured for over 170 years. Since then, St George's has become an icon of architecture and hospitality, distinguished as a Grade II listed building, and awarded with The AA's Silver Stars and One Rosette. For your holiday, enjoy a fun and memorable escape in Llandudno.

When St George’s Hotel first opened in 1854, the luxurious seafront hotel became an instant hit and a landmark symbolizing hospitality in North Wales. It was established by a young local named Isaiah Davies, who acquired the prime location by settling drinking debts with the land agent for the Mostyn family, who in turn owned all the land in the Llandudno Promenade.
The hotel gradually and grandly expanded over the years; notable additions include the Water Tower, which housed the first elevator in Llandudno, and the Lloyd Wing in 1878, built atop the old stables. The hotel also welcomed a multitude of esteemed personages, including French Emperor Napoleon III and his wife, Empress Eugénie.
Nearly two centuries later, St George's retains its rich Victorian elegance while updating it with modern comforts. It has kept up with trends, offering banquets, weddings, and conference venues and services. It has also received notable hospitality industry distinctions, such as the coveted Four AA Silver Stars and One AA Rosette.
Back in the 1840s, the Llandudno Promenade was part of a major development project. This meant the buildings being constructed along the bay also needed to contribute to turning Llandudno into a fashionable seaside resort. St George's Hotel did not betray the town's expectations, impressing them with a stucco-faced edifice with a rusticated ground floor and slate roof, characteristic of mid-19th-century seaside architecture. The hotel's gradual expansions added three more storeys while incorporating adjacent buildings.
Its facade features Corinthian pilasters on the first and second floors, elaborate entablatures and cornices, and windows with stuccoed or molded architrave. Completing the overall ornate Victorian aesthetic are loggias with Ionic columns and iron balconies. Breaking the visual monotony is the famed water tower that housed Llandudno’s very first hotel elevator.
The interiors have undergone alterations and modernization over the decades, yet the hotel retains its beautiful period architectural details. These include the Baroque-inspired cornices and low-relief frieze found in spaces like the grand dining room. The structure is listed as a Grade II heritage build, as a recognition of its significance and to encourage its enduring preservation. Even so, the hotel is also committed to accessibility and has integrated wheelchair-friendly features throughout the hotel, especially in their three accessible rooms.
The signature Terrace Restaurant & Lounge provides delectable all-day dining presented in a variety of menus, set in a seafront venue with amazing views of Llandudno Bay. Breakfast offers a selection of continental options and made-to-order light dishes, as well as a traditional Full Welsh Breakfast. Lunch features classic favorites such as crispy beer-battered fish and chips, generous sandwiches, and fresh soups. The restaurant opens in the evening for dinner, offering refined course meals and a la carte options complemented by a thoughtfully prepared wine list.
Afternoon Tea is a highlight in its own right, served daily with plates of finger sandwiches and other savoury treats. Also included are freshly baked scones with clotted cream and preserves, and an assortment of homemade cakes and desserts. You can further elevate the moment with a flute of Prosecco.
