The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Autograph Collection, is where heritage and modern elegance meet. The original Hotel Majestic was once the city’s grand social hub, hosting colonial elites and international artists. Beautifully restored as a national heritage site, it now retains its neoclassical and Art Deco character. Dining here feels like a journey through time, in settings from grand to intimate. The hotel is equally renowned as a destination for weddings, with ballrooms and gardens that create picturesque backdrops for celebrations. The Majestic Spa is a highlight, known for treatments that feel indulgent yet calming. Put it all together and you get a hotel that’s full of history but still feels alive and welcoming today.
The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur actually started as the original Hotel Majestic back in 1932, and it’s now a recognized national heritage site. It was designed by the Dutch firm Keyes and Dowdeswell for Loke Wan Tho, the son of the famous philanthropist Loke Yew. The building itself is a mix of neoclassical and Art Deco styles. It even had a roof garden with a dance floor that could seat 350 guests, pretty fancy for its time.
Back in its heyday, it was the place to be in Kuala Lumpur. It catered to the colonial elite and international visitors, and kept the hotel’s reputation as a place of luxury. Everything was imported, from furniture to silverware, and artists came from Hollywood and London to perform.
By the 1970s, newer hotels had taken over, and the Majestic started to lose its shine. The government stepped in, protected it under the Antiquities Act, and it even became the National Art Gallery for a time. Later, YTL Hotels restored it carefully, turning it into the Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur we know today, keeping its history alive while welcoming guests once again.
Tall white Roman columns, detailed cornices, a sweeping driveway, and a covered Porte Cochere give the hotel a real sense of grandeur. It now has two wings, the Majestic Wing and the Tower Wing, both connected by a glass-enclosed walkway. The Majestic Wing is the original building, and its 47 suites carry a lot of history. Timber floors, art deco furnishings, and black-and-white chequered bathrooms with claw-foot tubs give a nod to the past. The suites, Straits Room, Colonial Suite, Governor Suite, and the Majestic Suites, all have their own character.
The Tower Wing has 253 rooms and suites and complements the original building with the same art deco influences, but in a slightly more modern, refined way. Dark marble, polished chrome, plush carpets, and elegant four-poster beds make the rooms feel sleek yet classic. You’ll find Deluxe Rooms, Junior Suites, Grand Suites, and Premier Suites here. There’s also a Reading Room in the Majestic Wing, a swimming pool and gym in the Tower Wing, a spa inspired by Scotland’s Willow Tearooms, and a Truefitt & Hill salon for classic gentlemen’s grooming. There’s even a Screening Room showing black-and-white classics from the 1930s onwards.
