History

While somewhat hard to imagine, the grounds where Saint James Paris stands today were the site of Paris' first airfield when the Montgolfier Brothers launched their hot-air balloons. Established as the Thiers Foundation in 1892, the chateau was a home for scholarly pursuits until the latter part of the 20th century.

The property was rechristened as the Saint James Club of Paris in the 1980s and became an exclusive club for British high society. Later in 1991, it opened to the public as a hotel, eventually undergoing renovations in 2008 and finally reopening in 2011.

Design and Architecture

As a historic property from the 19th century, Saint James Paris is similar to many of the well-preserved Parisian buildings found throughout the capital. Much of its neoclassical aesthetics have been integrated into the modern setting, paired with the stunning sense of design and style the French are known for.

The creative mind behind the hotel's 2008 reincarnation is Bambi Sloan. With her blending of classical and historic designs with avant-garde pop culture-inspired touches, guests will find themselves wondering if they're staying at a posh museum instead of a typical hotel. Each suite is individually redesigned and decorated, with a reference and story to tell, be it a nod to Napoleon III or a callback to a character in television.

The hotel has also updated its accessibility features, designating rooms as wheelchair-friendly. These include helpful amenities, including raised toilets with grab rails and lowered sinks.
