For your trip to France, why not step away from the usual hotels and resorts and instead book a stay at a heritage guest house out in the countryside? Le Céladon, built in 1874, is exactly what you should check out. This 19th-century guest house offers a cozy setting featuring a refreshing outdoor terrace and tall centuries-old trees providing plenty of shade. Renovated in 2010, the property boasts modern comfort and leisure amenities that include a hot tub, an outdoor lounge, and a large swimming pool with a poolside house.

The property that would later become Le Céladon was first built in 1874 then acquired by the Denis family 20 years later in 1894. The Denis family were esteemed notaries, and each generation used the home as their office. While the actual notary office changed locations over the years, it was still situated within the estate. Other additions to the estate have also come and gone, notably the stables, vegetable garden, and kennels.
When the current owner, Olivier Denis took over in 2010, he envisioned adding leisure amenities as part of the modernization. Thanks to him, guests can now enjoy a cool swim in the pool and a soothing soak in the hot tub. Despite the modern additions, the house retains most of its old features, including the centuries-old trees surrounding it.
Design and Architecture
With every transformation and renovation, Le Céladon's splendid charm has not diminished but instead grown. Classic features such as the stonework and brickwork have been integrated into the property's historic features.
Rooms and indoor areas flaunt interior designs that blend antique furniture with modern comforts. Guests can feel the original tiles at their feet, and touch the age-old textures of plaster and woodwork with their fingers. Even the former poultry house had been transformed into a stay option, integrating the exposed stone with a modern kitchen and terrace bedroom.
During your stay at Le Céladon, you will be greeted every morning with a hearty French breakfast featuring homemade bread, jams, and pastries, as well as fresh farm produce. For beverages and random cravings, the kitchen is also accessible all day and offers a selection of teas, coffees, and snacks.
Cultural Experiences
Although Le Céladon is situated in the town of Montaigu, guests can easily visit major attractions around the Vendee region. Historic sites such as Château de Tiffauges and Clisson are less than 20 minutes away by car. There's also Le Puy du Foux, a history-themed amusement park with spectacles such as Roman chariot races, battle reenactments, and theatrical performances.
Other Celebrations
Le Céladon's estate features plenty of outdoor areas where you can hold a small private celebration. Be sure to get in touch with the management and staff and see if they can help you with arrangements for that special occasion.
