The original building of Le Clos Medicis was built in 1773, providing the powerful noble family with a residence in Paris. To the French, their most well-known family members were Catherine de' Medici, queen to Henri II, and Marie de' Medici, who married Henri IV. Indeed, Marie's former royal residence, the Palais du Luxembourg, is just a short walk from the hotel.
Today, the property is owned by Marie-Christelle Bordet, a proud and highly successful hotelier who also owns Les Fontaines du Luxembourg, another hotel just a street away from Le Clos Medicis. Under her management, the property was transformed into a heritage establishment that captures the spirit and affluence of Renaissance France and Italy, without relying on ostentatious decor and design.
Design and Architecture
The aesthetics of Le Clos Medicis harmonizes both old and new, as well as Italian and French fashions. For the most part, the theme of the hotel focuses on Renaissance-style luxury with the use of modern decor and furniture, evoking a distinct Parisian vibe. Furniture and fixtures are very much contemporary in design, though old features such as exposed timbers and pillars are kept as mementos of the property's past. Some items have even been commissioned just for the hotel, meaning certain furniture won't be found anywhere else.
