Hôtel-Restaurant Ricordeau

13, Rue De La Libération, 72540 Loué, France

Overview

Formerly a stagecoach inn during the 1800s, Hôtel-Restaurant Ricordeau has been transformed into a gorgeous boutique hotel that embodies the charms of Sarthe. Its 19th-century exterior is mainly intact, and the gardens are well-tended and create an ambiance of opulence. The dining options are sure to titillate the palate and can be enjoyed alfresco during the warmer months. The hotel's grounds are also available as venues for events such as weddings and birthdays. And when it comes to having fun, guests can enjoy the on-site amenities as well as find plenty of opportunities for excursions. Outdoor adventures such as boating are available in the neighboring communes, and the proximity to Le Mans means urban attractions and conveniences aren't far away.

History

Although it served as a coaching inn during the 19th century, the property that is now known as Hôtel-Restaurant Ricordeau looks more like a noble's estate instead. Much of the hotel's fame is credited to Chef Emile Ricordeau, the third of his generation to run the hotel business, with his efforts awarded with Two Michelin Stars. The hotel has welcomed many distinguished personalities over the years, including Steve McQueen, Gérard Depardieu, and Charles de Gaulle. In 2009, the hotel was acquired by the couple Anne-Cécile and Ludovic Deschamps who strive to preserve the memories and beauty of this historic property.

Design and Architecture

The Deschamps have continued preserving the 140-year-old building and grounds of Hôtel-Restaurant Ricordeau, improving the lush garden's relaxing atmosphere. The park-like setting, paired with leisure amenities such as the outdoor pools, provides guests with a lovely place for a relaxing holiday. Inside, the former inn now features 13 individually decorated accommodations, some of which maintained some old features such as the wood timbers. When it comes to furnishings and fixtures, however, everything else is very modern, assuring visitors that they can look forward to contemporary aesthetics and comforts during their stay.
