Hôtel Madison opened its doors in 1925, during the mirthful height of France's Années folles, creating a gathering spot for revelers and intellectuals alike. Its proximity to many street cafes and major cultural landmarks such as the Louvre Museum constantly attracted a variety of thinkers and creatives. These include famed authors such as Albert Camus, André Malraux, and Boris Pasternak.

The hotel's most recent major renovation took place in the 2010s, led by architect and designer Denis Doistau. The architecture is characterized by its symmetrical and uniform stonework, as well as balconies or windows with ornate metal railings. For its interiors, much of its design was done in Art Deco, which was the most prevalent style in 1920s Paris.
