Hôtel Les Hortensias du Lac will be found straddling the strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and Lac d’Hossegor. It was once a seaside villa built during the 1930s, in the Art Deco style that was prevalent during those years. Looking for the next opportunity to expand their business endeavors, Frédéric Biousse and Guillaume Foucher acquired the property in 2019, promptly renovating and remodelling it. They would make it part of their Fontenille Collection, a series of elite boutique properties around Europe. For Les Hortensias du Lac, their vision was to create France's first luxury surfing lodge.

Design and Architecture

Like every property that becomes part of the Fontenille Collection, they are updated and fitted with modern amenities while preserving their heritage and original personality. In the case of Les Hortensias du Lac, the hotel kept its Art Deco features, notably the white-washed exteriors contrasted by dark-painted timbers, and breezy bay windows that also bring in plenty of natural light. The pine trees that grow on the property also give the hotel some unique vibes that may remind travelers of California's surfing scene.

To further materialize the surf lodge atmosphere, co-owner Guillaume Foucher and designer Beryl Le Lasseur crafted interiors that enhanced the seaside ambiance. White dominates the rooms and halls, accented by wooden and earthy colors, as well as items that could remind someone of the sea.

Signature Restaurant

Chef Philippe Moreno brings together elements of the land and of the sea, creating fascinating and flavorful gourmet. Using freshly caught seafood and locally sourced meat and produce, Chef Philippe's menu includes dishes such as Breton lobster and roasted duck.

Availability: Closed during Tuesday lunchtimes, all day every Wednesday, and during Sunday evenings.
Seasonal openings: Open for evening dinner service on all days, from July 9 to August 27.

The Lake Beach House

Open seasonally, the hotel's Lake Beach House provides a peaceful and relaxed setting for your afternoon meal. Their options are mainly cafe-style meals, such as salads and sandwiches that you can order as take-away meals.

Availability: Open from 12 pm to 2 pm every day except Mondays.

If you're new to surfing, sign up for surfing lessons with skilled trainers and experience the thrill of riding the waves. For guests who are also foodies, the hotel also offers cooking lessons led by Chef Philippe Moreno himself, where he'll teach you how to prepare delicious delicacies and pastries.

If you'd rather take things slow, you can enjoy peaceful beach walks every sunrise or sunset. You can also sign up for yoga classes, held every morning from 9 am until 10 am. The hotel also holds an afternoon tea service from 4 pm until 5 pm.
