Hotel Le Saint Laurent

Place de l'Arbre, 30126 Saint-Laurent-des-Arbres, France

Overview

Hotel Le Saint Laurent is a heritage property from the 16th century, converted into a historic stay. Like its neighboring structures in the medieval town of Saint-Laurent-des-Arbres, the hotel is a cobblestone building that has withstood the centuries. Despite its classic and rustic exterior, the interior amenities and decor are focused on comfort and luxury. Each of its ten suites and rooms is individually themed and decorated, some with contemporary flair, and others reminiscent of French aristocracy. Surrounded by the charming Gard countryside, guests are encouraged to explore and partake in the local culture. Tour farms and estates that are part of regional wine routes, and visit old cities like Avignon to see ancient landmarks and historic buildings.

History

The story of Hotel Le Saint Laurent is tied to the town it is part of, Saint-Laurent-des-Arbres. The town is located in the Gard department of Occitania, a region known for its life-giving rivers that feed the farms, vineyards, and wineries of Southern France. The town itself had existed since the 9th century as a fiefdom, but it grew to prominence when it became a wine-producing town sometime in the 16th century. It was also around this time that the walled medieval town grew and expanded, with one of the buildings eventually becoming the Hotel Le Saint Laurent we know of today.

Design and Architecture

Hotel Le Saint Laurent is situated in a medieval building made of cobblestones and timbers, creating a very authentic and immersive heritage vibe. Guests who take a good look at the neighborhood can easily imagine themselves as time travelers who ended up going back centuries. Although the property has limited space, they were able to fit a lovely pool area with a lounge and still keep it in line with the building's aesthetics.

When it comes to accommodations, all ten rooms and suites have been individually designed, sporting a variety of themes such as monochrome, Asian-inspired, or inspired by heraldic patterns of an English manor. The modern items and amenities contrast with the exposed timbers and rough stonework. Paintings line the walls while curios decorate the mantels and antique tables and cabinets, further asserting the medieval ambiance of the hotel.

Events and Experiences

The communes and areas around Saint-Laurent-des-Arbres hide many interesting and exciting things worth checking out!

The region is famous for its vintages, so one of the most popular options is to go on winery tours. Hotel Le Saint Laurent has partner tour services for each of the major wine-producing communes, such as Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Tavel, so get in touch with them if you're interested. If you're looking to learn more about the industry as a whole, book a visit to Wine Museum Brotte, also in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Another major industry is lavender production. Like the wine tours, some farms are also open for tours, and will happily guide travelers through their fields and factories.

Aside from farms producing local specialties, the hills are also dotted with ruins of old castles and other structures. Château du Castellas is one such ruin, the remnants of a hilltop bastion from the 12th century. Fort Saint-AndrÊ is another, and much better preserved, because of its history as a stronghold managed by the Catholic Church.

While you have so many options for tours and excursions, don't forget to relax and restore your body. The hotel is equipped with wonderful wellness facilities, including a hammam, hot tub, and sauna. Detox and destress after a trip or during a lazy day, and be rejuvenated for your next adventure. You can even book therapy sessions with professional masseuses who offer a variety of services, including Californian, Qi Gong, and tonic massages.
