History

Back in 1949, Catherine Salini laid the foundation for what would become one of Corsica’s most beloved retreats. Inspired by "The Maquis," a bar in Paris’s 5th arrondissement, she returned home and turned her mother’s classroom into a small inn. Later, she expanded it into a four-room hotel. By 1968, Le Maquis had firmly established itself in luxury hospitality. Architect Georges Grateau shaped its signature design—arched doorways, shaded terraces, and hidden alcoves. Surrounded by greenery and the shade of ancient trees, the hotel has grown and changed over the years, balancing its timeless charm with modern touches.

Le Maquis reflects Mediterranean charm with a nod to Corsican heritage. Its design draws from Genoese towers and ancient citadels, featuring tiled pavilions and crenelated facades.
