Hôtel Juana lives up to its robust reputation built over the years since its construction in 1931. It's listed as a historic monument and proudly boasts the honor of being the country's first hotel to earn two Michelin Stars. The lovely Art Deco property has also been one of the centers of the jazz scene in the 60s.
Marianne Estène-Chauvin and her family have been running Hôtel Juana since 2006. Thanks to the management and staff's impeccable hospitality, you can feel the typical warmth of a family-run establishment here. Plus, from its wheelchair-accessibility to its pet-friendly policy, every initiative taken at the hotel ensures guests' satisfaction and comfort.
Juan-les-Pins has always been popular among the rich and famous, and anyone who wanted to have an indulgent summer holiday. And Hôtel Juana provided the perfect home base for that. It was envisioned by Alexandre Barache in 1931 and constructed under his supervision. An architect from Nice, Georges Diganski, was the person in charge of its design and architecture. Barache made sure to create an elegant and luxurious property that would attract the most famous and influential clientele.
The hotel has hosted dignitaries, artists, and musicians such as Aga Khan, Winston Churchill, Ella Fitzgerald, Pablo Picasso, and Jacques Prévert, who were enamored by its charms. Some artists even contributed to Hôtel Juana's decor, including photographer André Villers and reputed ceramists from the commune of Vallauris. In 1984, the property surpassed its previous reputation by even excelling in the domain of gastronomy. It won an unprecedented two Michelin Stars under renowned chef Alain Ducasse.
The hotel's jazz background is also worth mentioning. Juan-les-Pins has been a significant part of the jazz scene since the 1920s. The commune is not only famous for inaugurating the Sydney Bechet era but also for hosting the Antibes - Juan-les-Pins Jazz Festival. In the 60s, the hotel became a frequent stop for musicians such as Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Ray Charles, and Miles Davis. Today, the jazz festival has been renamed Jazz à Juan Festival and still hosts famous artists, including Lionel Ritchie and Stevie Wonder.
Hôtel Juana was put up for sale in 2001 as the Baraches had no heir to pass it to. Luckily, it caught the attention of the owner of Hôtel Belles Rives, Marianne Estène-Chauvin, who purchased it in 2006 and has since been running it.
Design and Architecture
Hôtel Juana features a distinctive Art Deco architecture with a satisfying symmetry in its cream-colored facade. It also retains its original flair from the 1930s. Despite the property's old-world charm, it provides utmost comfort in the modern rooms and suites boasting chic furniture and decor. The warm, earthy tones with vibrant splashes of color here and there create a homey vibe. The colorful restaurant is also pleasing to the eyes.
