Boasting more than two hundred years' worth of history, Hotel Bourgogne & Montana was built in 1791 as a private mansion serving travelers, locals, and other visitors. Its location in the middle of Paris and its major landmarks have made it a witness to various milestone events in French history, such as the French Revolution, the Napoleonic Wars, the attacks and invasion of France in both World Wars, and the Cold War. Throughout this history, however, it has remained largely intact and unchanged, gradually opening itself up to the broader public as a hotel accommodation. Its most recent renovation was in 2008, allowing the property to provide both traditional French hospitality with more modern conveniences.
Design and Architecture
Its position along the River Seine greatly shaped the form of the Hotel Bourgogne & Montana as an example of Parisian Haussmannian architecture of the 18th century, with its dormer windows and mansard roofs. In its current form, the hotel exhibits the commonly expected features of a Haussmann-style building.
Its ground and first floors are of a medium to low height, serving as a mezzanine for various amenities and communal spaces like lounges or wellness areas. The second floor contains the rooms meant for nobility and which feature the deluxe suites of today. The rooms here have the tallest windows, and their interiors are the most ornately and lavishly designed, with herringbone and parquet floors. The third and fourth floors are more moderate in height and design. Meanwhile, the attic and fifth floor levels come with a wraparound balcony and are at a more modest height, similar to mezzanine levels. Once meant for servants, these rooms are more valued in the present, given that they provide an ideal spot for wider views of the overall city.
Throughout the building, care has been taken to ensure that amenities are stylish and modern, including the classically-inspired decor, velvet upholstery, air conditioning, televisions, and bathroom accessories. All these come together to ensure that guests can have an authentic, relaxing, and immersive experience with a cozy ambiance.
