Château de Sully

Chain Hotels High Medieval to Renaissance
4-Star 8.7(429 reviews)
1 route de Port en Bessin, 14400 Sully, France

Overview

Château de Sully is a gorgeous country estate liked for its stylish appearance as well as idyllic ambiance. Not to be confused with the Château de Sully in Burgundy, this hotel in Normandy is stylish and grand in its own right. The hotel features a signature restaurant specializing in local delicacies that utilize the region's rich agriculture and fishing industry. Another great advantage this hotel has is its proximity to the town of Bayeux, known for many must-see cultural attractions such as the Bayeux Tapestry and the Gothic cathedral. Vacationers can spend their time simply relaxing here, making use of hotel's spa and its wellness facilities.

History

In the sleepy village of Sully hides Château de Sully, a picturesque estate that has been around since the 17th century. It had even played a role in World War 2. Boasting a beautiful country house surrounded by lush and well-maintained gardens, this historic hotel's classical features remain intact. The tower, for example, looks very much as it probably did during the time of the French monarchy. The rooms and interior halls might be modern, but they still bear the masonry and stonework that had withstood the centuries.

Design and Architecture
Since the chateau was first built in the 17th century, it's no surprise the architecture was influenced by the Renaissance Era. The exteriors depict a proud opulence without needing to be ostentatious. In contrast, the interiors are quite modern and mainly use contemporary decor and fixtures. The two eras blend together, however, such as how rooms are given modern furnishings and decor, yet there can be a chandelier that's a nod to the time of the aristocracy.
