Château Colbert, built in 1679, has been a key part of Anjou for centuries. Once part of a larger estate, it included the Parc Oriental, which was later taken over by the local authorities in 1976. In 2001, Madame Popihn took it upon herself to restore the château, pouring her heart into reviving every corner of the property. A major highlight of her restoration work was the kitchen garden, which had been abandoned but was carefully brought back to its 18th-century glory. By 2016, it was named the finest vegetable garden in France. Today, the château and its grounds are a beautiful testament to French heritage.
Design and Architecture
Each room at Château Colbert is a blend of history and luxury. High ceilings and oak flooring set the stage for regal canopy beds and antique-style furnishings. Marble fireplaces, crystal chandeliers, and intricate wall hangings add to the timeless elegance. Large windows draped with heavy fabrics allow natural light to pour in, creating an inviting yet sophisticated atmosphere.
With warm wood paneling, grand mirrors, and soft, elegant lighting, the restaurant at Château Colbert is designed for a refined dining experience. French doors open up the space, adding a touch of grandeur, while the carefully curated furnishings bring a classic charm. Every detail, from the ambiance to the décor, reflects the château’s rich heritage.
The bar exudes old-world charm with its stunning mahogany counter and plush armchairs. A marble fireplace adds warmth, while historical paintings give a nod to the château’s storied past. It’s a cozy spot to unwind and soak in the elegant surroundings.
