History

Guests with an eye for historic details will love finding the little touches still present at Auberge de Cassagne. Back in 1850, the whole estate where the hotel's property stands was known as Château de Cassagne. The current owners of the hotel have not forgotten its old country charm and have preserved it to honor and exhibit the beauty of Provencal aesthetics and traditions. Officially opened as a hotel in 1969, the establishment's signature restaurant immediately became a major draw for travelers. The restaurant was awarded its Michelin Star in 1985, cementing the hotel's position as a landmark for gastronomic culture in the region.

Auberge de Cassagne's signature Gourmet Restaurant & Bar is a comfy slice of culinary paradise in the French countryside. Having been awarded its Michelin Star in 1985, the hotel has worked very hard not just to maintain it but to push the boundaries of Provence's local cuisine throughout the years. Restaurant Manager Christophe Fournier is also the sommelier, and he makes sure that the wine cellar of Auberge de Cassagne is always stocked with wonderful vintages from the region's best wineries. In the kitchen, Master Chef Philippe Boucher leads the teams of Chef Anthony Iorio and Chef Maud Poli in crafting unforgettable French gourmet cuisine and homemade desserts and pastries that will delight guests of all ages.

Because Auberge de Cassagne is located in Le Pontet, a commune right outside Avignon, guests can enjoy the wonders of both the former Papal city and the beautiful countryside surrounding it. Epicureans are encouraged to discover the provincial flavors and vintages of communes such as Saint Rémy, Gordes, and Roussillon. Those who wish to head into the city can instead take cool photos of Pont Saint-Bénézet and Palais des Papes. Right next to the Papal Palace is La Mirande, a historic cardinal's palace that has since been restored and opened as a restaurant and hotel.

Le Pontet itself is also a hotspot for watersports, and you can indulge in water-based fun in places such as Urban Wake Park. Alternatively, guests can go on river cruises on the Rhone.
