Ranbanka Palace

Commissioned in 1927 by Major General Maharaj Dhiraj Sir Shri Ajit Singh Ji, Ranbanka Palace was originally part of his main residential palace, Ajit Bhawan. It was made using the same red sandstone that can be seen in Mehrangarh Fort. The word Ranbanka means master of battles, a fitting name for the residence of a royal family that descended from courageous warrior-kings, the Rathores.

Today, the courtyards that once held royal audiences seeking justice from the fair king have become beautiful dining areas for culture lovers and romantics. Likewise, the luxurious themed spaces inside the palace now provide comfort and relaxation to visitors from all over the world.

Ranbanka Palace was commissioned in 1927 by Marwar Sir Ajit Singh Ji, the Maharajadhiraj of Jodhpur, for his royal residence, Ajit Bhawan. The project was taken up by the British architect Sir Henry Lanchester, who would also later work on Umaid Bhawan Palace. Lanchester would be known as one of the lead proponents of Indo-Deco architecture, and those influences can easily be seen at Ranbanka Palace.

By blending Rajputani and Victorian aesthetics, Lanchester emphasized the ornate beauty of both Western and Eastern designs. Many of the intricate filigrees, carvings, and jali artwork can still be found around the hotel, meticulously preserved by the royal family who reside here.
