Ahmedabad is renowned as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its historic walled city. Founded by Ahmad Shah I in 1411, the city is a treasure trove of historic landmarks, centuries-old architecture, and diverse industries that have developed over the years. Mangaldas ni Haveli I is a fine example of the city's heritage; this 350-year-old house is filled with details, such as intricate wood carvings that cover almost every inch of the haveli. The majesty of the haveli will have guests awed, but the comfort and homey ambiance of the bedrooms will leave them relaxed and energized for exploring the city. Don't forget to take advantage of the haveli's breakfast options, offered in delicious local and international cuisines.
Travelers will find Mangaldas Ni Haveli I tucked away in one of the historic pols of Ahmedabad. A pol is a type of neighborhood division or compound housing with a gate for security. Many of these historic homes have fallen into neglect, but House of MG owner Abhay Mangaldas has made it part of his mission to save Ahmedabad's heritage whenever he has the chance.
Mangaldas Ni Haveli I was a project he started after turning their ancestral mansion into a heritage hotel, The House of MG. The 350-year-old pol lay hidden away in Ahmedabad's historic city center, close to historic sites like Sultan Ahmad I's Jama Masjid. Together with his father, renowned architect Kamal Mangaldas, the two led a series of restoration efforts resulting in the beautiful bed & breakfast you see today.
As a veteran architect and native Gujarati, Kamal Mangaldas would be very familiar with the historic Ahmedabad architecture of Mangaldas ni Haveli I. One of the aspects recognized and valued by UNESCO is the intricate stone and wood carvings that line the walls, pillars, and doors of Ahmedabad's pols. At the same time, Abhay Mangaldas and his House of MG commission local craftsmen and artisans for restoration and maintenance works, providing not only livelihoods but also preserving and promoting these priceless crafts.
The result is a magnificent and stunning haveli bed & breakfast, rich with fine details while providing modern comforts to its guests.
