The former royal residence of Prime Minister Maharaj Bhairon Singhji, Bhairon Vilas is a handsome and splendid haveli now open as a historic boutique hotel. Well-preserved and meticulously maintained, the haveli's exterior and interior spaces let you glimpse into Rajasthan's adventurous and intriguing past, when it was ruled by fierce warriors and noble kings. Sleep in beautiful, individually decorated guestrooms, and feast on delightful Bikaner cuisine. As you dine, you'll be enchanted by evening entertainment consisting of folk music and traditional dances. There will also be many opportunities for cultural immersion in Bikaner, including camel safaris and local tours arranged by the hotel's concierge.
Bhairon Vilas came about in 1872, built by the Maharaja Ganga Singhji's cousin and Prime Minister, Maharaj Bhairon Singhji. Both the haveli and the Prime Minister were named after Bhairon, an aspect of Lord Shiva. Aside from his service as Maharaja Ganga's Prime Minister, Maharaj Bhairon was also awarded a lordly title of Knight Commander of the Most Exalted Order of the Star of India in 1916. Minister Bhairon's descendants still live in the haveli; they are also the ones who diligently maintain and manage their ancestral home.
Since Bhairon Vilas was built in 1872, the primary architectural style of the haveli is Rajasthani Indo-Saracen. This type of house was popular during the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly in regions formerly part of the Mughal Empire. Havelis are often decorated in intricate stone carvings, with motifs of the family and the Maharaja they served. Another aspect of Rajasthani haveli design is the application of jharokha arches on windows and doorways, and jali stone lattice patterns.
As for the interiors of the haveli, the rooms and halls are filled with decor and memorabilia of the family's history and exploits. It may seem cluttered, but it also creates a rich and homey atmosphere. Guests feel like they're staying over a close friend or relative instead of lodging at a hotel. Each of the 18 guestrooms has an individual theme when it comes to color and interior arrangement. They are equipped with modern comforts, yet decorated in authentic antique and classical items.

While Bikaner may be known as the Camel City of India, it is also a city rich with heritage buildings hundreds of years old. One of the finest is right next to Bhairon Vilas, which is Junagarh Fort. This 16th-century fort served as the primary stronghold of the Maharajas of Bikaner when they first founded their kingdom. The palaces of Bikaner's Maharajas are also open for visits, such as Lallgarh Palace and Laxmi Niwas Palace.
The hotel will also be happy to arrange for tours and day trips. Camel safaris are very popular with both local and international travelers, and it is considered a very enriching cultural experience due to how important the animal is to Bikaner's history and local industries. As for days when you're relaxing in the hotel, you can catch folk performances such as native dances and music.
While the haveli isn't as spacious as former royal palaces, there's still plenty of room for private celebrations and company events. Couples or families wishing to celebrate a birthday or anniversary can approach the management for a private table with personalized service. As for companies looking for a cozy corporate retreat, the haveli has on-site business facilities and equipment that can be prepared for formal business functions.
