The Astor

The Astor was built in 1905 as a guest house, in a building that used to host British soldiers. Its first owner was Aga Beg, a Parsee man, who later rented it out to Mr & Mrs Suresh Kumar in 1963. It took 15 more years for the property to become open as a hotel, and in 1978, The Astor came into being. In 1999 , DS Puri took over ownership of the hotel, with Vikram Puri still running it today under the Archer Hospitality brand.

The property was lovingly restored in 2012 to meet the demands of modern times. However, it still retains its old-world charm with features like four poster beds, old paintings, and Colonial architecture.

Aside from The Astor Kolkata, Archer Hospitality also operates a sister property known as The Astor Goa in Candolim.

The Astor's striking brick-red facade proudly flaunts a blend of Victorian and Colonial-era architectural styles. The white arched windows with ornate details offer a pleasant contrast against the dark red.

Inside, the hotel has high ceilings and vintage furniture that will transport you back in time. The property's regal elegance is further enhanced by the luxurious fabrics utilized in the rooms and suites. Subtle details like beautiful paintings framed on the walls add to the nostalgic vibe.

The hotel was meticulously renovated in 2012, but the owners were careful not to affect its heritage details and old-world charm.

The Astor is well-known for its dining venues. Even non-residents flock to its excellent restaurants and bars.

The property charges in a per-plate system and requires a separate fee for decoration and DJ. One complimentary room and private parking space for 40 cars are also provided. Note that the patio cannot be booked separately.

The Astor keeps hosting cultural events and experiences on special occasions such as the Indian Republic Day, or Valentine's Day. They also have monthly and seasonal lineups of enriching experiences, like cooking workshops for kids and food festivals serving delectable dishes.
