Shahpura Bagh is a distinguished heritage palace in Rajasthan, established by the younger brother of the Maharaja of Udaipur as a summer residence for the Rajas and visiting Viceroys. The current building, constructed in the late 1800s, was carefully restored by the family after India’s independence. It reopened in 2006 as a lakeside retreat, maintaining classical elegance with present-day luxury. Today, it is managed by Rajadhiraj Jai Singh, Ranisahiba Mandvi Singh, their daughters Tamiksha and Darshini Singh, and Thakur Shatrujeet Singhji, Thakurani Maya Singh, and their daughter Trisha Singh. Shahpura Bagh also supports sustainability with solar power and donates part of its revenue to the Rajadhiraj Sudarshan Deo Charitable Trust, inspiring guests to aid local initiatives.
Shahpura Bagh dates back to the 1630s. It was founded by the younger brother of the Maharaja of Udaipur as a summer retreat for the royal family. Nearly four centuries later, it remains with 18 generations of custodians. Each has added to its growth and preservation. The current structure, built in the late 1800s, was not just a residence. It hosted visiting dignitaries, Viceroys, and nobles during the princely era. After India’s independence in 1947, the family continued its care.
In 2005, the family undertook major restorations, preserving the estate’s original charm using local craftsmanship and authentic materials. Today, Shahpura Bagh is owned and managed by Rajadhiraj Jai Singh, Ranisahiba Mandvi Singh, their daughters Tamiksha and Darshini Singh, along with Thakur Shatrujeet Singhji, Thakurani Maya Singh, and their daughter Trisha Singh.
At Shahpura Bagh, sustainability and helping the community have always been important. Rajadhiraj Nahar Singh(1870–1930) set up the region’s first rainwater harvesting system and started the first modern Hindi primary school in 1873, followed by an all-girls school in 1875. His descendant, Rajadhiraj Sudarshan Deo (1945–1991), continued this work by founding Dayanand Saraswati Girls School in 1963, giving Dhikhola Fort for a school in 1971, and starting Shahpura Agricultural School in 1920.
Built in the late 1800s, Shahpura Bagh showcases Rajput-European architecture with chandeliers, gothic windows, and arched arcades that reflect Rajasthan’s royal past. Set amid centuries-old trees and two serene lakes, the estate blends heritage with sustainability, offering a boutique retreat focused on restoration and responsible tourism.
With just nine suites, Shahpura Bagh ensures privacy and comfort. The Luxury Villa Suite is tucked by the pool and features two bedrooms, an open courtyard, a private verandah, and an outdoor shower, accommodating up to three guests. The other suites are bright and spacious, with wooden furniture and big windows that welcome natural light. Guests can relax by the pool, stroll through verdant gardens, or enjoy lakeside views. The property also provides facilities for disabled guests to ensure convenience for all visitors.
