Varanasi has existed for thousands of years, and is one of the pillars of Indian culture. Every year, it welcomes millions of Hindu pilgrims and foreign tourists to partake in grand festivals such as Dev Deepawali, Ganga Mahotsav, and Maha Shivaratri. Over the centuries, many noble and royal families built grand mansions and havelis here as their holiday residence, often close to the Ganges or their patron temples. Pallavi International Hotel is likely one of these, built in the 1800s by Maharaja Bahadur Sir Krishna Pratap Sahi and adapted into a heritage hotel in 1984. Sleep in charming historic rooms, visit the many temples that dot Varanasi's neighborhoods, and try traditional cuisine at their restaurant, Darpan.
Due to its significance to Hinduism, Varanasi is one of India's foremost pilgrimage destinations. It is also popular for foreign travelers who wish to partake in the festivities and culture of India. Alongside the ghats, shrines, and temples that dot the city, the city is also filled with old mansions and havelis built by noble and royal families over the centuries. We can surmise these were constructed to provide an official residence to these esteemed families whenever they need to make a pilgrimage to Varanasi.
Pallavi International Hotel is one of these properties, built sometime in the 18th century at the behest of Maharaja Bahadur Sir Krishna Pratap Sahi of Bihar. It remained their Varanasi residence up until 1984, when it was converted into a heritage hotel. Centrally located, it provides a fantastic basepoint from where guests can easily explore many of the city's historic landmarks and cultural attractions.
Since it was a project of Maharaja Bahadur Sir Krishna Pratap Sahi, it's no surprise Pallavi International Hotel reflects his regal yet compassionate personality, as well as the architectural conventions of his time.
Despite modernizations, the hotel retains much of its original architecture, including ornate arches adorned with intricate carvings and meticulously painted patterns like filigrees. The former palace underwent renovations, but the hotel has tried its utmost to ensure the royal atmosphere of Pallavi International Hotel remains authentic. Rooms and spaces are decorated with native handicrafts and framed paintings of events and personages. The furniture, on the other hand, is in a vintage style, helping add to the classic atmosphere.

Even though Varanasi is still in the tentative list of possible UNESCO World Heritage Sites, it boasts a history and heritage spanning 3,000 years. It is a very popular destination, even for those of other religions, as many of the festivals and celebrations are quite welcoming to participants. These include events like Maha Shivaratri, a grand festival dedicated to Lord Shiva held sometime between February to March. There's also Dev Deepawali, a brilliant, citywide illumination celebrated 15 days after that year's Diwali.
The city's temples are also extremely significant to its heritage and history. One of the most important is Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, which is one of Lord Shiva's twelve Jyotirlingas or sacred shining pillars. Sarnath, is also deeply important, especially for Buddhism, as this was the town where Buddha held his very first sermon, soon after achieving enlightenment.
For company celebrations or retreats, the venues of Pallavi International Hotel aren't just for weddings. These can be arranged for official functions such as conferences and seminars. Swayambar offers indoor and outdoor spaces, and can accommodate 500 seated guests, or 1,000 floating guests. Shivam, the indoor banquet hall, can be set up with 125 seats, or provide enough room for 150 standing, such as for a cocktail party.
