As Rajasthan had long been the site of many fierce battles, the land lies dotted with numerous fortresses that once defended their rulers' domains. Neemrana's Hill Fort Kesroli is one such former bastion, built over seven centuries ago by the Yaduvanshi Dynasty. It was restored in 1995 and has since provided a luxurious and idyllic retreat amidst the plains and hills of Rajasthan. Sleep and relax in charming, individually decorated heritage suites, and enjoy dining on a rich selection of native and international cuisines. The Thar Desert is also filled with adventures, from safaris at the Sariska Tiger Reserve, and sightseeing and shopping in the city of Alwar.
Kesroli Durg, now known as Neemrana's Hill Fort Kesroli, was originally established sometime during the 14th century by the Yaduvanshi Dynasty. Due to the rivalry of the region's kings and nobles, battles were often fought across the plains, hills, and deserts. The Khanzada Rajputs, who trace their lineage from the Yaduvanshis, established their dominance of Mewat in 1492. They often came into conflict with the Delhi Sultanate, during which Kesroli Durg often played a vital role. Despite all these battles over the centuries, even changing hands at times, the fort remained mostly whole.
In 1995, the Neemrana Hotels group acquired and restored Kesroli Durg, and soon opened its doors to guests in 1998.
Even though Kesroli Durg was built in the 1300s and has participated in numerous battles, the fort was mostly intact and well-preserved when it was acquired by the Neemrana Hotels group in 1995.
During its renovation, many of its original features were simply restored instead or rebuilt. These include the main defensive elements of the fort, such as its seven turrets, the sturdy ramparts, as well as the thick walls and impressive gateways. The courtyards where soldiers drilled and trained have since been converted into social spaces, gardens, and even into a swimming pool area. Like many of Rajasthan's historic landmarks, Kesroli Durg was built using Thar Desert sandstone, but it also used another special rock called hornstone breccia.
When it comes to its accommodations, each room is given a unique theme and name. While modern amenities are provided, certain items that detract from the heritage aspects, such as TVs, are not available.
