Nahargarh Ranthambhore

Village -Khilchipur, Ranthambhore Road, 322001 Sawāi Mādhopur, India

Overview

Nahargarh Ranthambhore traces its origins as a hunting lodge for the kings of Jaipur, set amidst the jungle wilderness where quarry is plentiful. It has since transformed into a luxurious palatial hotel, boasting beautiful gardens and oasis-like swimming pools while nestled next to the jungles of Ranthambore National Park. The 16th-century architectural style brings guests back to the days of the Maharajas and Thakurs, without forsaking modern conveniences. Relax in the vivid outdoor spaces and dine in ostentatious banquet halls. Enchanting suites will be your accommodations, each lavished with traditional architectural details and embellishments. And make sure not to miss out on the many adventures in this part of Rajasthan, including exciting safaris to see tigers and river dolphins.

History

Nahargarh Ranthambhore recalls its origins as a royal hunting lodge for Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh I, who ruled Jaipur in the 18th century. He established the estate along with the city of Sawai Madhopur, providing a residence for the royal family during their hunting trips. In 2004, the Alsisar Hotels company, known for the Alsisar Haveli in Jaipur and Alsisar Mahal in Shekhawati, acquired the property and transformed it into the resplendent hotel you see today.

Proud of its heritage, the hotel seeks to impress guests with its royal treatment. Your visits will be welcomed by musicians and dancers, similar to the pomp of palace retainers announcing the arrival of esteemed noble guests.

Design and Architecture

Instead of following modern design conventions, Nahargarh Ranthambhore chose to epitomize the beauty of traditional Rajasthani architecture. Its exterior is washed in ivory white and cream colors, making the heritage-style buildings stand out amidst the dense jungle and shine in the Rajasthan sun. Since Nahargarh Ranthambhore is built atop the remnants of the original hunting lodge, guests will still find remnant trails and perimeter walls that marked the estate's previous incarnation. The walls and ceilings are decorated with intricate hand-painted filigree and murals. Greek columns hold up cloud-like jarokha arches, showing the richness of cultural exchanges in the region. The guestrooms also feature arched doorways with tronsoms, and high ceilings lit by ornate chandeliers, further emphasizing the royal ambiance.

The facilities and amenities of Nahargarh Ranthambhore are also given a distinct, extravagant design. The Hathi Kund, for example, is an outdoor swimming pool and courtyard, designed like the ancient stepwells that provided water to Jaipur and its surrounding towns. The Arjun Mahal Banquet Hall, on the other hand, embraces a bit of decadence with its gold leaf paintings and magnificent chandeliers.

Foremost among these is Ranthambhore National Park, which is one of the last few sanctuaries of India's native tigers. Aside from tigers, the park is also home to deer, antelopes, jackals, and other big cats such as leopards, panthers, and desert lynx. Within the reserve are also the ruins of ancient fortifications and man-made reservoirs. Ranthambore Fort is part of the UNESCO World Heritage: The Hill Forts of Rajasthan. Within the fort's solemn grounds are a museum, a mosque, and Hindu temples.

Another safari destination is the Chambal River, which is home to a diverse range of aquatic, avian, and amphibious animals. Hop aboard a river speedboat safari and discover rare species such as the crocodilian gharials and the inquisitive Ganges river dolphins.
