Jagat Niwas Palace is a visual treat, showcasing the classic elegance and grandeur of royal residences. Itâs beautifully set next to the City Palace on the shores of Lake Pichola. The hotelâs picturesque setting lets guests admire stunning views of the lake from various parts of the property.
The family-run establishment dates back to the early 17th century and proudly boasts features from its early days. Kr. Devraj Singh transformed it into a heritage hotel in the late 20th century, and it opened its doors to culture enthusiasts looking for a lavish stay. Aside from its decor and architecture, the hotel offers various experiences to let guests dive into authentic Rajasthani culture and traditions.
Before becoming the luxury heritage hotel it is now, Jagat Niwas Palace used to be a typical Rajasthani haveli, dating back to the early 17th century. Its origin coincides with that of the Badi Mahal in the City Palace, which is right next to the property. The haveli was called Titoda, and later, Banderwara Haveli, before being renamed Jagat Niwas Palace.
In 1987, Kr. Devraj Singh decided to restore the haveli and convert it into a heritage hotel. Despite the introduction of modern amenities and facilities, the property retains its old-world charm and gorgeous Mewari architecture. Jagat Niwas Palace is actually one of two hotels in the Jagat Collection, the other being Dev Niwas, located in the town of Bundi. Guests can admire views of the cityscape and Lake from their windows and terraces. Wake up early to see troops of monkeys leaping across the rooftops and boatmen ferrying passengers and goods.
Design and Architecture
Admire quintessential Mewari architecture at Jagat Niwas Palace. Feel the age and history of their antique furniture, carefully maintained by the family and master craftsmen. The same can be said of the colorful frescoes and filigree painting that decorate the walls and ceilings. The arched doorways and jharokas (extended windows) are integral signatures of Rajasthani architecture and are found on full display here. In addition, there are intricate carvings, decorative weapons, and other touches such as plush seating that help create a royal vibe.
Accessibility is an ongoing aspect of improvement for Jagat Niwas Palace. Currently, there are wheelchair-friendly rooms on the first floor of the hotel, though other locations such as the rooftop terraces are limited to stairs access.
