Kanota Bagh, Narain Singh Road, Jaipur - 302 004, Rajasthan, INDIA, 302004 Jaipur, India

Overview

A grand heritage hotel adorned with lush gardens awaits in the Pink City of Jaipur. The Thakur of Kanota, General Amar Singh Ji, built Narain Niwas for his noble family during the early 20th century. It eventually opened its doors as a heritage hotel in 1978, offering guests the regal accommodations once meant only for princes. Though relatively newer compared to other historic establishments in Jaipur, Hotel Narain Niwas Palace's beautiful estate delivers a rich heritage experience. It is located within easy reach of many local historical and cultural attractions. Gardens with flowers and fruit orchards gracefully contrast with the colorful sandstone of the hotel. The palace also livens up with performances from traditional musicians, folk dancers, and puppeteers.

History

Hotel Narain Niwas Palace was first constructed in 1928 by the Thakur of Kanota and distinguished World War I veteran, General Amar Singh Ji, as a country residence. It is one of three other heritage properties, along with Rajmahal Palace and the Castle Kanota, that are all managed by the Kanota family. The property continued to serve its purpose for the family for many years, surviving World War II, the independence of India, its transition to a republic, and the ensuing loss of status for the Thakur and his fellow nobles, without incurring significant damage or major change.

Fifty years after its initial construction, however, it was transformed into its current role as a publicly available accommodation by Thakur Mohan Singhiji Kanota and his late wife Thakurani Sahab Narendra Kanwar. Since then, many parts of the palace have been renovated and transformed into leisure spaces where guests can spend their time in a regal setting. From what was once a simple bed-and-breakfast with 4 rooms, it now features luxurious and modern conveniences such as air conditioning, currency exchanges, and spas. It even has its sustainability initiatives, such as the use of eco-friendly materials, the rejection of single-use plastics, and even electric vehicle charging stations. This legacy of development and excellence carries on today, with Thakur Mohan’s sons Thakur Man Singh and Thakur Prithvi Singh now managing the hotel along with their sons.

Design and Architecture

Despite being built in the 20th century, Hotel Narain Niwas Palace rather strictly follows the aesthetics of traditional Rajasthani architecture, with strong influences of Indo-Saracenic design. The prevalent use of elaborate arches in both passageways and windows is a strong indicator of the blend of both, as well as the use of structural adornments both on the inside and outside of the building.

The Indo-Saracenic influences are relatively muted and are more expressed in the use of chhajja overhanging eaves, and also the minimalist patterns and engravings found in entrances. External amenities like the pool or terraces also express this influence, with their use of geometric shapes and patterns in both design and decoration.

$85.00 /night for 2 adults

While the hotel predominantly adheres to an Indo-Saracenic aesthetic—evident in its consistent use of arches as both structural and decorative elements—many other hallmarks of the style are either subdued or absent. Certain spaces, such as dining areas or hallways, feature the typical use of naturalistic patterns and shapes to decorate fixtures and walls. However, these decorative elements are often applied with restraint, ranging from minimalist compositions with large expanses of bare wall to modest engravings or painted details.

In certain places, Western or modernist influences such as stained glass, classically styled furniture, and even walls with a stone block design are observable. Together, these elements reflect a broader and more eclectic set of influences—an architectural dialogue that not only preserves its heritage but also reinterprets it, thoughtfully bridging the past with the present.

For those looking for an encounter closer to home, the palace’s fellow property, the Castle Kanota, offers a look at the life and legacy of their founder through the General Amar Singh Kanota Museum and Library. General Singh was one of the first Indian officers commissioned in the British Indian Army and a veteran of World War I. He was a scholar and diarist who, besides amassing a personal library of more than 3,000 books, also maintained a daily English diary from 1898 to 1942.

These personal artifacts are stored at the museum alongside a larger collection of Indian historical and cultural treasures. Visitors will be able to see exhibits of war memorabilia, ceremonial arms and armor from all over the world, historical records and land ledgers, and many kinds of traditional Rajasthani art.

$85.00 /night for 2 adults

On the other hand, the theater configuration can fit 270 people, and the cocktail configuration can fit the most at 300 people.

Along with a private lawn adjacent to the ballroom itself, the other dining and accommodation facilities of the palace are also available for events and participants, depending on specific needs and requirements.
