History

As a British hilltop estate built in 1890, it's no surprise the architecture of Gateway Madurai mainly follows a Victorian style , with hints of other Western designs such as Edwardian and Regency. Once the home of a British textile businessman, Sir William Harvey, the secluded estate has since been made a part of the Taj Hotels chain and transformed into a resort-like getaway with scenic views and wellness amenities, including a pool and spa. If trees could talk, the well-cared-for banyan trees that cover the property with their verdant canopies would surely have plenty of stories to tell.
