Rising from the plains of Rajasthan, Fort Barli has been guarding history for 350 years. Built in 1675 by Darbar Devi Das ji of the Rathore clan, it was lovingly restored by the late Rani Sahiba Sushila Kumari and later by Princess Vinay Kumari with her grandson-in-law, Anirudh Singh Rathore. Today, 16th-generation heirs Devraj Singh and Divyraj Singh welcome guests with warmth and tradition. Intricate frescoes, carved silver heirlooms, and stonework preserve its soul, while thoughtful modern amenities ensure an indulgent and memorable stay. Guests can savor authentic Rajasthani cuisine, unwind by the infinity pool, and take part in heritage tours, yoga sessions, cooking classes, treks, and bird safaris, making each visit feel like a royal chapter.
Fort Barli has been quietly guarding Rajasthan’s royal stories for over 350 years. It was built in 1675 by Darbar Devi Das ji from the Rathore family, whose roots go back to Rao Maldeo of Marwar (Jodhpur). For centuries, this fort was home to Rajput kings and warriors, the most famous being Darbar Sahib Lal Singh ji, whose bravery is still sung in local stories and folklore.
Eventually, the fort had fallen into disrepair, but the late Rani Sahiba Sushila Kumari began its restoration, which was followed through by her daughter Princess Vinay Kumari and her grandson-in-law, Anirudh Singh Rathore. Today, twin brothers Devraj Singh and Divyraj Singh, who also happen to be the 16th-generation heirs of the Rathore family, welcome guests with stories of the fort’s rich history. Today, Fort Barli stands as a living monument, symbolizing Rajput valor with modern hospitality.
Fort Barli is a masterpiece of Rajput architecture, where artisanship is brought to life through the ages. Its outer walls remain unpainted, letting the weathered stone tell the fort’s story. During the restoration, skilled craftsmen who had inherited knowledge from their forefathers, who first built it, took the lead in the fort’s careful restoration.
Inside, intricate stonework and delicate ship-shaped motifs showcase the virtuosity of the artisans. Silver heirloom furniture adds to the historic charm, each piece intricately carved with elephants, lions, and tigers, animals that symbolize courage and reflect the Rajput lineage. Frescoes of deities and floral motifs rendered in blues and reds have been revived using flower-based pigments. The rooms feature spacious areas, private courtyards, and royal decor. Outside, the infinity pool on the fort’s bastion is a calm spot to relax, sunbathe, and enjoy countryside views.
Modern amenities like air conditioning and high-speed WiFi have been thoughtfully provided for a luxurious stay without disturbing the fort’s historic essence. Every corner of Fort Barli, from frescoed walls to antique furniture, reflects centuries of royal craftsmanship.
