The Angel and Royal Hotel is one of England’s oldest surviving medieval inns, and much of its original structure still remains. The site is believed to have once belonged to the Knights Templar and was linked to the wealthy Temple Bruer preceptory. After the Templar order was dissolved in 1312, the property was taken by King Edward II and likely passed to the Knights Hospitallers.
