History

The Hotel Tadoussac was first built in 1864 by wealthy citizens of Montreal and Quebec City. The three-story building, with a broad twelve-window facade, quickly became a favorite stop for travelers. In 1879, it was sold for $12,000, and in 1888, it went through its first full renovation to refresh and modernize the space. By 1941, the original structure had aged and was torn down. The following year, a new hotel rose in its place, reopening in 1942 with 137 rooms. All rooms were equipped with modern amenities and safety features for a comfortable stay.

Over the decades, the Hotel Tadoussac has evolved steadily, expanding and updating its spaces while keeping its unique historic identity intact. Today, it offers an experience that combines comfort, culture, and history. Generations of visitors have enjoyed its hospitality, and it remains a must-visit spot in the Saguenay region, drawing travelers from across the globe.

Design and Architecture

The Hotel Tadoussac reflects early 20th-century architectural sensibilities, blending classic maritime charm with Belle Époque elegance. Its exterior features red-painted wooden walls accented with crisp white trim, a central cupola, and multiple dormer windows that give the building a distinctive, timeless silhouette. The pitched roof and symmetrical proportions echo the refined yet practical style of the era, while its position overlooking Tadoussac Bay emphasizes a connection between structure and landscape.

Inside, the hotel’s interiors maintain the same attention to detail. Rooms are decorated with subtle nautical and floral motifs, wooden accents, and warm furnishings that reflect the region’s heritage. Many rooms offer panoramic views of the bay, creating a sense of openness and light. Public areas and corridors showcase a harmonious balance of tradition and comfort, with classic finishes and thoughtful detailing that celebrate the building’s history. The overall effect is a seamless blend of heritage architecture and contemporary livability, giving visitors a sense of stepping into history while enjoying a comfortable, well-appointed stay.
