The hotel’s restaurant, Coteau, serves seasonal farm-to-table dishes made with ingredients from their own chemical-free farm on Île d’Orléans. Guests can wander the cobblestone streets, visit museums like Musée de la civilisation, explore Petit-Champlain’s shops, or ask the concierge to plan personalized cultural tours. 8 Rue Saint-Antoine, Old Quebec, Quebec City (QC), Canada, G1K 4C9
Set in the heart of Quebec City, a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site, Auberge Saint-Antoine carries a story that stretches back more than 300 years. The hotel stands on Îlot Hunt in the Old Port, right along the St. Lawrence River, an area that once played a key role in the city’s early development. Long before it became a hotel, this site went through several phases. It first functioned as a wharf, then served as a cannon battery, and later turned into a hub for British merchants when Quebec City was one of the busiest ports in North America.
The transformation into Auberge Saint-Antoine was led by the Price family, who focused on preserving the site’s past rather than replacing it. During construction, a major archaeological dig uncovered artifacts dating back to the 1600s. Instead of storing them away, many of these pieces are now displayed across the hotel, from guest rooms to common areas.
Auberge Saint‑Antoine’s architecture is a compelling blend of historic structures and thoughtful contemporary design. The hotel is composed of a cluster of buildings dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, originally part of the bustling Old Port’s commercial and military infrastructure, including a former wharf and cannon battery. These historic exteriors have been meticulously preserved, allowing the stone walls and traditional façades to speak to Quebec City’s rich past while fitting seamlessly into the surrounding streetscape of this UNESCO World Heritage area.
Inside, the design moves fluidly between past and present. Public spaces and guest rooms incorporate original materials such as exposed stone, timber beams, and archaeological artifacts uncovered during restoration, anchoring the interiors in local history. Warm wood, natural textiles, and contemporary furnishings balance that heritage with modern comfort and elegant simplicity. Many rooms overlook the St. Lawrence River or the charming cobblestone streets.
Set inside a restored 1822 maritime warehouse, the space already carries a bit of history, but the food feels fresh and current, rooted in Quebec’s local flavors. Much of what you’ll taste begins at the hotel’s farm on Île d’Orléans. The menus follow what’s growing there, along with ingredients sourced from the nearby St. Lawrence River, so things naturally shift with the seasons.
The kitchen is led by Lucas Brocheton, working closely with head gardener Alexandre Faille. Their approach is simple in idea but thoughtful in execution, letting ingredients lead while adding a refined touch to each dish.
Overall, it’s very much a farm-to-table experience. It’s easy, seasonal, and quietly memorable, with a clear connection between what’s grown, what’s cooked, and what arrives at your table.
Alongside the main dining space, Bar Artefact offers a more relaxed setting, but still keeps that strong connection to the hotel’s history. The vibe here is easy and social. You can drop in for a quick drink, a light meal, or just sit by the fire and take your time. The cocktail menu leans personal, with the team happy to tailor drinks based on what you like rather than sticking to a fixed list. They also serve afternoon tea here on Saturdays and Sundays, between 2 pm and 4 pm, which makes for a nice, slower way to experience the space. Food is simple but well thought out, curated by Lucas Brocheton, with small plates, coffees, teas, and hot chocolates depending on what you’re in the mood for.
Opening hours: 12 pm to 10 pm (daily)
Kitchen closes at 9:30 pm
