Proudly bearing its title as India's first heritage hotel, Ajit Bhawan Palace Resort offers a luxurious getaway in Jodhpur, India's Blue City. Originally built during the 1920s as a royal residence, it was opened in the 1970s under the command of Maharaj Swaroop Singh Ji. Since then, the palace has been converted into a heritage stay with 65 rooms and suites. It has maintained its Rajasthani architecture and authentic atmosphere under the careful management of Maharaj Swaroop and his wife Rani Usha Devi. It perfectly balances the preservation of heritage alongside providing modern comforts and luxuries. The palace hotel provides one of the best stay experiences for travelers looking to discover Jodhpur's rich culture and history.

History

Ajit Bhawan's origins date back to 1927 when it was built as the residence of Major General Maharaj Dhiraj Sir Ajit Singh Ji, the Prime Minister of Jodhpur. It would later be opened to the public as India's first heritage hotel by his son Maharaj Swaroop Singh Ji and his wife, Rani Usha Devi, in the 1970s. To this day, the palace hotel is operated by the royal family through the Ajit Group, which also operates Rawla Narlai, a historic manor hotel in the hilly village of Narlai. Adjacent to Ajit Bhawan is Ranbanka Palace, another heritage hotel that was originally part of the royal estate, though it has since become a separate property owned by Rajkumar Karan Vijay Singh who is also a member of the royal family.

Although the hotel initially offered only 12 units, renovations and transformations to the estate over the years enabled the hotel to accommodate 65 rooms and suites.

Design and Architecture

Although Ajit Bhawan Palace Resort was originally built in 1927, its architecture accurately adheres to the Rajputani aesthetics of Jodhpur's centuries-old palaces and forts. Likewise, Ajit Bhawan is also made of the same red sandstone as those structures.

Upon entering the palace, guests will find themselves bedazzled by the posh interiors, dressed in fineries such as carpets, chandeliers, and antiques. Royal portraits and sconces hang from the walls, creating a luxurious yet welcoming atmosphere.
