Overview

Le Pavillon de la Reine is a cozy boutique hotel in the heart of Paris. Housed in a 17th-century mansion, guests can enjoy their stay amidst the many historic sights and locales of Paris. Inside, visitors can choose to savor the fine dining experiences of the Michelin-starred Restaurant Anne and the 28 Bar, or relax in the luxurious comfort of its Codage spa, and even hold events at the property’s Boudoir. For those wishing to explore Paris, the property serves as an ideal location, being close to famous Parisian landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre Museum, and more. Blending French elegance with modern luxury and comfort, Pavillon de la Reine provides guests with a unique experience of Parisian hospitality.

History

The origins of the Le Pavillon de la Reine can be traced back to 1612, when it was constructed at the order of King Henry IV of France to serve as one of the royal residences. However, the king would not live to see the completion of this project, and it continued under his successor, Louis XIII. In that same year, Louis was engaged to Anne of Austria, and as Queen, would be the inspiration for the eventual current name of the property.

King Henry’s intentions for the property remained unfulfilled, and instead of becoming another royal residence, the hotel became a gathering place for various members of French high society. The purpose of the property instead became either a venue for having lavish celebrations or serving as a residence for certain nobles and other notables. Queen Anne herself was among those who occasionally visited the property and enjoyed its comforts.

Over the years, the property continued as an accommodation for various notable people eager to find a place to stay in the City of Love. It endured the next few centuries without experiencing any critical damage or major change. However, it would only be in the 20th century when the property fully became a publicly available accommodation. With the help of a partnership between members of the Chevalier family, the hotel underwent a renovation and refurbishment in 1989 to appeal to modern travelers.

Design and Architecture

With King Henry IV having personally ordered its construction, it should not be a surprise that the Le Pavillon de la Reine is a noted example of the Henry IV style of architecture. This overall design principle has been maintained over the years, which has also been respected in the more recent renovations for public accommodation despite added modern conveniences.

The building’s exterior reflects the dual-purpose design typical of the period. The ground level accommodates commercial or reception spaces, while the upper floors are reserved for private residences or guest rooms. The structure maintains a largely rectilinear form, emphasizing symmetry and functionality. In recent years, creeping ivy and climbing greenery have softened the building's outline, blending natural ornamentation with historic stonework and enhancing its visual appeal near the park.

In terms of the interior, more recent renovations by interior designer Didier Benderli of Kérylos Intérieurs have thoroughly modernized the rooms, spaces, and passageways of the hotel. Walls and floors are lavishly decorated with inlay gold and black linings. Furnishings are mainly modern, featuring various touches of Mid-Century Modern simplicity, Art Nouveau style curves, and even Rococo Revival patterns and engravings. The overall blend of design aesthetics and functionality allows guests to relax in both comfort and authentic style.
