The Kingsmills Hotel stands on a site with a history spanning over 200 years. The first house here, built in the 18th century, incorporated parts of the original King’s Mill, giving the property its name, “Kingsmills House.” The estate became home to the Inglis family in the late 1700s. William Inglis, Provost of Inverness in 1797, played a key role in shaping the town, overseeing infrastructure improvements and contributing to the development of landmarks such as the Steeple on Bridge Street and the Royal Northern Infirmary. In 1853, the building was expanded, and in 1906, a tower was added, enhancing the house’s distinctive appearance.
