Hokkaikan Ohanabo dates back over 100 years. The family-run ryokan was established in 1914 during the Taishō era. The traditional townhouse has been updated into a hostel-like property with modern amenities to serve contemporary travelers. It's been renovated many times, including once in 2000. However, it proudly retains its traditional features and old-world charm for an authentic experience. The three-storied property has even refrained from constructing an elevator as it would clash with the traditional decor and charm. The ryokan also stays true to its roots by serving seasonal local recipes that have been passed on through generations. Design and Architecture

The ryokan maintains its traditional townhouse facade. Most of the construction is wooden, and the rooms come with tatami mats, futon bedding, low tables, yukatas, and seasonal flowers. Shoji screens are also featured in the rooms, adding to the warm, nostalgic vibe. Some rooms also feature a blend of Western and Japanese styles.

The food offered at Hokkaikan Ohanabo is heavily influenced by the Japanese seasons and features fresh local products handpicked by the okami (landlady) and her team. They are served at the dining venue, which showcases a traditional Japanese style. Dinner can also be served in your room, but for breakfast, you have to come down to the dining hall.

A variety of kaiseki course meals are served for dinner. The standard meal features Ōmi beef, seafood, and vegetables arranged colorfully. Premium sukiyaki course meals with marbled beef and shabu shabu course meals are also available on request.
