Miyoshi, Japan

Chiiori Lodge is a traditional Japanese farmhouse purchased in 1973 by American Japanologist Alex Kerr. It hails as the second oldest of its kind in Iya, and offers a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The minka has spacious all-black interiors softly illuminated by lamps, and traditional shoji sliding doors open to a lovely view of the mountains. Guests have the option to cook meals for themselves or feast on a special dinner set featuring locally sourced ingredients from Iya. Chiiori Lodge’s location makes it the perfect starting point for outdoor adventures and cultural activities that give you a deeper insight into the history and culture of Miyoshi.
