Boasting a history of almost 300 years, Sumiyoshiya Ryokan calls itself the oldest ryokan in Kanazawa. It is nestled in a strategic spot as well, located between Higashi Chaya District and Nagamachi District.
Design and Architecture
The historicity of the property is evident from its very exterior with its gabled eaves and roofs and traditional window railings. Indoors are equally beautiful, with the lobby sporting a beautiful painting. Even the ceiling tiles have paintings on them! The rooms have tatami mats, chabudai, tatami chairs, and shoji doors, embracing traditional Japanese aesthetics. Some even feature an engawa. The gardens are equally pretty, being fitted with a bamboo fountain, ancient stone tiles, and other unique features.
Dining Area
The on-site dining area is equipped with both Western-style seating and Japanese-style seating with chabudai and seating cushions. The dishes served here heavily feature local produce, be it vegetables or seafood. Local sake is also a good accompaniment!

Dinner mainly features fish and shellfish, and favorites include sashimi, snow crab, and grilled fish.
