Overview

Tucked away in the heart of the Rajasthan desert, Samode Bagh began as an 18th-century private garden and has since blossomed into a serene resort oasis. This peaceful retreat near the Samod village offers more than just an escape from the desert heat—it invites guests to leave behind the demands of daily life. Unwind with a swim in the outdoor pool, or discover the region's rich heritage with a guided tour. Dine out in the gardens or beneath a cozy banquet tent, with each meal thoughtfully prepared by chefs using ingredients from the resort's gardens and local producers. As a sister property to the renowned Samode Haveli and Samode Palace, Samode Bagh upholds a legacy of noble hospitality, ensuring your holiday is unforgettable.

History

Though Samode Bagh was built over 250 years ago, its roots reach deeper into the tapestry of Rajasthani history. During the time of the Rajasthani kingdoms, communities were managed by feudal rulers called Thakurs. The town of Samod was under the management of a family who descended from Maharaja Rajveer Singhji, the 17th prince of the Kacchwaha Rajputs.

As skilled administrators and warriors, their fortunes and influence enabled them to build a hill fort that later became the Samode Palace. They also built their clan residence, the Samode Haveli, in Jaipur. As a complement to Samode Palace, they also made a charbagh—a Persian-style garden divided into four parts, popularized throughout the region due to Mughal influences. This garden retreat would be called Samode Bagh, reflecting Samod village and its rulers.

The British claimed Samod as part of their domain during their colonial rule in the 19th century, though the town would eventually be returned to the Nathawat clan. From then on, the family was recognized by the names Rawal Saheb and Maha Rawal. Coinciding with this era was the landscaping of Samode Bagh, further transforming the gardens into a verdant sanctuary.

The Rawals have diligently maintained their properties to this day, each serving as wonderful heritage stays showcasing Rajasthan's rich history and culture. Samode Bagh also stands as the oldest operational Mughal garden in Rajasthan, a title the locals of Samod are proud to promote.

Design and Architecture

Echoing the beauty of its sister properties, Samode Haveli and Samode Palace, the structural design of Samode Bagh focuses on traditional Rajputana and Mughal conventions. The graceful jarokha arches found in the main building are a signature of Indo-Saracenic architecture. At the heart of the property is the charbagh, which follows the Persian design and represents the four gardens and four rivers of paradise. Fruit trees and spring-like water channels surround the charbagh, creating a serene and postcard-perfect setting.

Matching the resort's Indo-Saracenic vibes are the luxurious tent cottages of Samode Bagh. These are set in the garden, providing a refreshing atmosphere that mimics camping beside a desert oasis. Guests who prefer a traditional stay can opt for the posh *bagh suites , offering cozy air-conditioned rooms with sleek marble floors.
