La Maison des Têtes was built as a bourgeois residence by architect Albert Schmidt in 1609. The renowned architect had other masterpieces credited to him, like the house of the St. John's Knights. Initially, the building was home to shopkeeper, Anton Burger, after which it was used for wine trading. In 1898, the house stepped into a different role yet again as it was converted into a restaurant.

The house has been restored multiple times over the years. The current owners, Eric Girardin and Marilyn Tanguy Girardin took over in 2015 and transformed the unique house into a 5-star hotel. The couple meticulously renovated the property while carefully preserving its original features and oddities that make it one-of-a-kind.

Design and Architecture

The most striking part of La Maison des Têtes' architecture is the 106 heads adorning its facade. Other than that, it boasts 17th-century architecture with intricate carvings on its exterior. There's a statue of a cooper at the top of the building, which was added in 1902 by sculptor Auguste Bartholdi.

The property has been restored multiple times, and each time its original features were carefully preserved. Even now, the stylish bedrooms feature rustic details such as exposed wooden beams.

As the name suggests, this dining venue goes a long way back. It proudly flaunts traditional Alsatian decor and original details like intricate woodwork.
