Hôtel Le Beaufort began as a seaside mansion along the sands of Plage du Sillon, an edifice from 1880 depicting the refinement of the Belle Époque. Later on, it was remodelled with Art Deco styles, which became prevalent after the 1925 Paris Exposition Internationale. The town of Saint-Malo itself had been around since the Gallo-Roman era, but would come into prominence during the Age of Sail, when the town became a center of privateering efforts against France's enemies.
Though the hotel was built in 1880, it did not fully follow the Belle Époque conventions of the time, preferring to eschew the lavishly ornate details of the era's architecture. Sometime before its opening, its interiors were given a makeover in Art Deco styles. These include an emphasis on geometry and symmetry, with its rooms washed in soft colors while sharply accented by wood frames and panels. The furniture is a blend of contemporary and period fashion, creating a contrast that doesn't diminish from the comfort or beauty of the stay.
