Château de Salettes' existence was recorded around 1252 for the first time, but it's quite possible that the characterful property existed even before then. It's believed that the castle played a role in the construction of Sainte-Cécile Cathedral in Albi. In the following years, the property passed through many hands, including the nobility such as the Viscount of Lautrec and the Hautpoul family. In fact, French cavalry general Jean Joseph Ange d'Hautpoul was born in the castle. You can find a room dedicated to him at the hotel.
The chateau's advantageous position amidst the historic vineyard was not only a boon but also a curse. It withstood many exploitations over the years until 1994 when Roger Le Net decided to come to its rescue. He saw the property's immense potential and decided to transform it into a hotel that respects its heritage while simultaneously embracing modern enhancements. He renovated the castle with the help of architect Gérard Huet and decorator Gérard Tinet, who also ensured that the structure retained its historic character. Even the wines served here carry the legacy of the thousand-year-old vineyard, which once produced white wine for the King of France!
Design and Architecture
Architect Gérard Huet and decorator Gérard Tinet complemented the castle's medieval-style architecture with understated modern decor. Its fortress-like structure with high towers and solid stone walls is kept intact, while the interior is revamped with thoughtful additions. The guest rooms offer subtle, sophisticated decor alongside rustic exposed stone walls, creating an interesting contrast. Original features such as spiral staircases and whimsical modern art pieces add to the uniqueness of the interiors.

The gourmet restaurant at Château de Salettes offers a wholesome experience, both with its delectable local fare and its tasteful decor. It features set menus, each exploring creative variations of local products, such as truffles. Its culinary efforts were recognized by Gault & Millau in 2022, where the guide gushed about its pan-seared foie gras escalope, Tarn pastis sorbet, and other delicacies. The decor sets a perfect tone with its warm, earthy vibe, an exposed stone wall, and a bare tree as the centerpiece. The adjoining patio also offers a lovely setting for enjoying a filling meal under the sun. What's more, you can gift meal vouchers to your friends and family to share the experience with them.
